Jewish English Gematria Cipher
Jewish English assigns Latin letters the same pattern of units, tens and hundreds used in Hebrew gematria: A to I = 1 to 9, J to R = 10 to 90, and S to Z = 100 to 800.
The Jewish English table
How it works
Look up each letter in the units, tens and hundreds table and add the values. Totals are much larger than in the ordinal ciphers, which makes coincidental matches rarer.
Worked examples
- Light: L (30) + I (9) + G (7) + H (8) + T (200) = 254
- Wisdom: W (500) + I (9) + S (100) + D (4) + O (60) + M (40) = 713
- Karma: K (20) + A (1) + R (90) + M (40) + A (1) = 152

Where it comes from
This is an adaptation of the Hebrew number pattern to the English alphabet. It is not a historical Jewish method; real Hebrew gematria uses the Hebrew letters, see the Hebrew cipher page.
Frequently asked questions
Is Jewish English the same as Hebrew gematria?
No. Hebrew gematria uses Hebrew letters and their traditional values. Jewish English applies a similar pattern to the English alphabet.
Why do totals get so large?
Letters from S to Z are worth 100 to 800 each, so even short words can total several hundred.
